Our customers work with us because we supply a wide range of carefully selected combinable crop species and varieties which have been bred by world-leading plant scientists and extensively field-tested. We sell a wide variety of wheat, barley, oats, beans and triticale including spring beans, spring barley and spring wheat.

We only multiply seed varieties with careful consideration for regional suitability, rotation, market outlets and suitability to regenerative farming practices, meaning our customers have the most advanced, vigorous and marketable product available.

Due to our strong relationships with UK and European plant breeders, we have access to leading established varieties but also new variety releases which can be issued on semi-exclusive, or even exclusive arrangements.

To date, we have successfully commercialised a number of varieties including Merlin, Atego, Rozmar and Vok Spring Oats, Sokrates, Magister and Nelson Winter Wheat, Amaretto Spring Wheat, Armada & Evelina Spring Barley and Securo and Somtri Triticale and we are continually trialling new material each year in both AHDB Recommended List and independent trials.

Group 1 Wheats

LG Crusoe wheat

Crusoe is a well-established group 1 variety on the recommended list, it boasts the highest protein content of any other variety currently on the list. The good lodging resistance and all-around disease package against Septoria tritici, mildew, and yellow rust make this a competitive variety for the
premium milling sector.

Edelmann is bred by expert Austrian plant breeder Edelhoff, the breeder of Evelina, Ehogold, Elego and Elias. Delivering quality and yield, it has tall straw and good disease resistance. We have buy-back contracts available for the variety which offers an attractive premium over feed wheats.

Ehogold winter wheat is an organically bred variety from Austria, capable of achieving the best milling quality available. This variety is around 20% lower yielding when compared to UK conventionally bred material but the grain quality achieved with this variety is superb. Extremely tall and with the appearance of a heritage wheat, it’s extremely early to mature. Milling contracts are available which offer a premium over other varieties.

KWS Zyatt winter wheat is an exciting, new group 1 variety with high untreated yields making it a true dual variety, suited to the milling and feed market. It performs well in the second wheat slot and performs well in all regions of the UK, on all types of soil. However it does prefer heavier land. It is a short, stiff variety which is early to mature.

KWS Zyatt performed well in our own organic trials and came 2nd behind Dunston in terms of yield, mirroring that of the Recommended List untreated trials.

Nelson is a dual purpose variety suitable for bread making as well as a feed variety. It is a German E-Quality Milling variety (the best rating available) which combined with superb grain quality and extremely high specific weights means that millers are readily accepting the variety.

Tall, winter hardy and with a stiff straw Nelson is a low input variety which is highly suited to Organic farming.

RGT Skyfall web

Skyfall wheat is a group 1 bread making variety that is currently the UK’s number one. This is down to its consistent performance for both farmer and miller. The winter wheat also has strong fusarium and OWBM resistance and a flexible drilling window. Skyfall wheat is a short stiff-strawed variety and relatively early to mature.

Group 2 Wheats

KWS Extase is an exciting new group 2 bread making variety with an excellent combination of high yields, quality potential and disease resistance. With a hagberg and specific weight of 297 and 78.4 respectively, combined with a yellow rust rating of 9 and brown rust rating of 7 plus an 8.1 rating for septoria tritici.

KWS Palladium is an exciting early maturing, brand-new group 2 wheat designed for the UK bread markets”. This variety has shown an exceptional untreated yield and scores very highly against Septoria, Mildew, Yellow Rust, and eyespot”. Palladium is great for earlier drilling due to the early maturing characteristics.

A group 2 variety, KWS Siskin should be viewed as a high yielding feed wheat within the organic sector with excellent disease resistance. KWS Siskin scores a 9 for yellow rust, 5 for brown rust and a 6.6 for septoria tritici. It is a medium height variety best suited to the first wheat position and does well on heavy and light soils

Mayflower Winter Wheat is a group 2 variety with a high untreated yield and exceptional Septoria Tritici resistance score of 8.4, the highest on the list. For those growers looking for a low input variety, should certainly look at Mayflower as either a group 2 or feed option.

Group 3 Wheats

LG Astronomer is a quality soft milling wheat, it is high yielding, has good disease resistance, and has a high specific weight. As a biscuit variety, it will also meet the requirement for distilling.

Since the demise of Claire, we have struggled to find a Group 3 variety that suits the Organic grower. Elicit has a good untreated yield and is average in height with excellent resistance to lodging and a good all round disease package making it a welcome addition to our portfolio.

KWS Barrel web

KWS Barrel is a high yielding group 3 variety that has good physical grain quality with a hagberg of 224 and 77.1 kg/hl specific weight. Barrel was the highest yielding soft wheat variety in the north. It has excellent resistance to lodging and is OWBM resistant, with the added bonus of having good all-round disease resistance.

KWS Brium

KWS Brium

Conventional

KWS Brium is a group 3 variety for UK flour, biscuit, and distilling. It currently sits at the top of the group 3’s on the recommended list. One of Brium key attributes is the ability to be flexible due to it being a later drilled and later maturing variety. It also has excellent yellow rust scores and is OWBM resistant.

Soft Group 4 Wheats

Elation is a group 4 variety that is suitable for distilling and export. Elation has UK approval for export with excellent physical grain characteristics. It performs well in the north and is suitable for all soil types with the best performance coming from crops grown on lighter soils. It has the potential to be drilled late.

KWS Jackal web

KWS Jackal is a group 3 soft wheat is that is only suitable for distilling and feed markets. It has outstanding yield potential and is particularly suited to the north. Jackal possesses a good disease resistance package with being OWBM resistant. The crop grows to a medium height (86cm) with stiff straw giving it a good level of resistance to lodging.

LG Spotlight is group 4 soft wheat that has similar grain qualities to that of group 1 varieties which is unusual, such qualities make it suitable for distilling and feed uses. Spotlight has the highest hagberg falling number of any soft wheat (288) while also having an excellent specific weight (77.9). Spotlight is tall with stiff straw giving it good resistance to lodging as well the variety has a good all round disease package (OWBM resistant).

LG Sundance is a group 4 soft feed wheat with possibility of the distilling market in reach. Sundance possesses a very good disease resistance profile with a rating of 7.9 for septoria tritici. The variety is taller than the likes of Elation but has a similar maturity rating to that of Leeds.

Revelation is the most widely grown variety in the organic sector due to its consistency and reliability of performance since its first listing in 2013. It is a tall variety with good resistance to lodging and has an excellent disease profile, especially mildew, yellow rust, brown rust and eyespot as well as fusarium. Its growth characteristics make it highly suited to early sowings. Late to mature.

RGT Bairstow is new on the recommended list this year. The variety is strong against Septoria and OWBM. It has been marked down as positive for distilling. It would make a great choice for second wheat.

RGT Saki is a group 4 soft feed wheat (fully recommended variety) that is a consistent performer across all regions this can be put down to its superb disease resistance including OWBM, with yellow rust rating of 9, brown rust rating of 8 and septoria tritici rating of 6.8. It is also high yielding with good straw strength. Saki has the potential to make distilling specification.

Hard Group 4 Wheats

Costello is a group 4 hard feed wheat that yields consistently at a high level but also offers superb grain quality with the highest specific weight on the AHDB recommended list. It possesses a broad spectrum of disease resistance. Costello is a short variety with stiff straw that results in excellent resistance to lodging. Investment risk for this variety is reduced because there is a strong market demand for it.

LG Typhoon is a new group 4 hard feed wheat, it has a very good disease package, which includes OWBM and Septoria for which it has the highest scores. The yield potential is very consistent across all types of soils and climates.

Gleam is a very high yielding hard group 4 feed wheat; it has excellent overall disease profile with outstanding untreated yields as well as OWBM resistance. It produces strong straws and this is a product of its excellent resistance to lodging. Gleam is early to mature with robust HFN and offers farmers flexibility in terms of drilling requirements.

Grafton is a group 4 hard feed wheat which is ideal for growers who look for early drilling and very early harvest. The combination of the variety being short in height and stiff in the straw means that Grafton has excellent resistance to lodging. The variety Possesses superb physical grain characteristics and is ideally suited to very fertile sites.

Graham winter wheat, bred by Syngenta has proven popular both organically and conventionally for its disease resistance, especially to Septoria. It is a medium height variety with good resistance to lodging and early maturity. Graham winter wheat performs well as a 1st wheat and on heavy soils.

RGT Gravity is a group 4 hard feed wheat that is very high yielding with exceptional output in all regions. Gravity is a perfect option for the first or second wheat position in the rotation and is well suited to all soil types as it preforms consistently across all of them and it’s also OWBM resistant.

SY Insitor is an exciting new feed variety that is high yielding (105%) with a good level of all round disease resistance. the variety grows to a height of 93 cm and has a reasonable resistance to lodging. There is some date to show that it preforms well when drilled late and that the variety prefers lighter land. OWBM resistant.

Theodore is an another new variety that produces reasonable yields and has a good level of disease resistance. The variety grows to a height of 82 cm with high resistance to lodging. There is data to suggest that Theodore preforms better when drilled early and also prefers heavier soils.

Spring Wheats

Alicia is a milling variety with yields and disease resistance similar to Mulika. It has an exceptionally high specific weight, protein potential and good hagbergs. Early to mature. Alicia is an elite quality spring wheat that suits UK growing environment and milling markets. High, consistent yields, grain quality, excellent disease resistance and standing power.

Escape is the second-highest yield group 4 spring wheat on the recommended list. It has fantastic diseases resistance to Mildew, Yellow Rust and Septoria Tritici. It is also OWBM resistant. This variety is a great option for good standing and straw strength and is early maturing.

KWS Cochise

KWS Cochise

Organic

KWS Cochise is the highest yielding Group 2 spring wheat on the recommended list. It has a good specific weight and is resistant to OWBM. It is also complemented by good resistance to Mildew and brown rust.

KWS Ladum

Organic

KWS Ladum is the highest yielding group 1 spring wheat on the RL list. It consists of a good disease package, which includes an 8 for Mildew and a 7 for Septoria. It has a good specific weight of 78kg/hl.

Senova Mulika web

A consistent and reliable milling variety which delivers good proteins, hagbergs and specific weights. Very similar to Paragons milling capabilities. According to this year’s Recommended List, Mulika offers good resistance to Yellow Rust and Brown Rust. Mulika is also Orange Blossom Midge resistance.

First listed in 1999, Paragon has been a good servant to both conventional and organic growers. Like hereward in the Winter Wheat sector, Paragon is recognised as the bread making quality benchmark by which all other spring wheats are judged. Paragon has good all round disease resistance and good straw characteristics.
