Norfolk grower wins award with Nelson

The chairman of Stoke Ferry Agricultural Society in Norfolk has won an award for his Nelson winter wheat crop.

Martin Cockerill collected the trophy on behalf of Oxborough Farms with a sample of Nelson from last year that had a specific weight of 82.2kg/hl, putting it well above the other varieties.

“My employer is over the moon that we, a light land farm, should win,” Martin told the Eastern Daily Press.

The farm continues to grow Nelson and says the crop is looking healthy this year. We would like to say a huge congratulations to Martin and Oxborough Farms!

The exclusive variety is bred by SZ Schweiger GbR, one of the leading German plant breeders who found it produced grain with outstanding bread-making quality and was classed as “E” quality, the highest quality rating attainable.

Nelson winter wheat is a high gluten, high-quality winter wheat with high untreated yield potential and has a wide drilling window from September to February and is early to mature. Learn more about Nelson here.
