WINTER WHEAT (Group 1)

KWS Zyatt

KWS Zyatt is a Group 1 milling wheat with a yield ahead of Crusoe and on a par with high-yielding feed wheat KWS Santiago. Zyatt has grain and flour characteristics similar to that of other varieties in this group and consistent bread-making performance. It has strong disease resistance to the principal foliar diseases and eyespot resistance, meaning it will find a place on every farm.

Skyfall

Skyfall is the highest yielding Group 1 breadmaking wheat. With treated yields 4-6% higher than the market-leading bread wheats and a strong agronomic profile, it represents a step change for the UK breadwheat market. Skyfall has good all-round disease resistance and the unique combination of eyespot resistance and resistance to orange wheat blossom midge (OWBM). It is short, stiff-strawed and is early maturing.

KWS Trinity

Trinity is an established Group 1 breadmaker and is the joint highest yielding Group 1. Trinity boasts and exceptional HFN, good protein and sprouting resistance. Trinity has a strong all round disease package; mildew (9), yellow rust (9), brown rust (8) and is relatively early to mature and performs well as a second wheat.

RGT Illustrious

A Group 1 variety with high treated and untreated yields. It is a later maturing variety with good overall disease resistance with high ratings for Mildew, Yellow & Brown Rust as well as eyespot.

Crusoe

Group 1 milling wheat which produces the highest proteins on the RL. Crusoe is easy to manage with good resistance to Septoria, mildew and yellow rust. Crusoe has high yield potential both with and without fungicide. Short, stiff straw and excellent milling characteristics, suitable for premium milling and export market. Crusoe has good lodging resistance.

A Group 1 bread making variety suitable for export. Gives very good Proteins, Hagbergs and Spec weights, but out yielded by newer varieties Crusoe and Skyfall. An early variety.

WINTER WHEAT (Group 2)

KWS Siskin

A short strawed group 2 variety with the highest UK yields, both treated and untreated on the AHDB recommended list. Good overall disease resistance and only 1 of 2 varieties with a Spetoria resistance score of 7. Limited data suggests that this variety has a tendency to sprout and may be susceptible to eyespot

A short, but high tillering Group 2 variety that offers a robust agronomic package with exceptional resistance to most diseases including a solid 6 for Septoria, 9 for mildrew and 7 for yellow rust. Two days behind Solstice, it is a mid maturity wheat.

A group 2 suitable for export. Gives high grain protein, hagbergs and spec weights. An early variety with short, stiff straw. A consistent variety liked by the millers.

KWS Barrel

The highest yielding Group 3 with good physical grain quality. Barrel is the highest yielding recommended variety in the North; a true Dynamic barnfiller. Barrel comes with excellent standing scores and is OWBM resistant.

Britannia

A Group 3 variety. Tall, high tillering with good protein potential, it is also an ideal variety to consider for on farm use. Britannia has a stable agronomic and disease resistance package including a high resistance rating to yellow rust.

Spyder

Spyder is a new addition to the AHDB Recommended List for the East and West. It is a Group 3 variety producing high yields both treated and untreated. With control of costs on farm becoming increasingly important, Spyder offers the grower security throughout the season and at harvest. It has excellent grain quality, with by far the highest soft wheat Hagberg on the list and should prove popular with end-users. Spyder shows good resistance to all diseases, importantly Septoria tritici and both rusts, as demonstrated by its superb untreated yield.

KWS Basset

A Group 3 variety that is classified as a soft wheat for export but is not suitable for distilling. Has high specific weight and good resistance to Yellow Rust combined with resistance to OBM although it is susceptible to Mildew.

A soft Group 4 variety that has good potential for export and a medium potential for distilling. Leeds is high yielding with a good specific weight. It has a good resistance to OWBM, fusarium and yellow rust but is susceptible to brown rust and very susceptible to Mildew.

Viscount

A hard group 4 with good distilling and export potential. One of the highest yielding of the varieties with export quality although tends to give low hagbergs according to AHDB trials. It has good resistance to mildew and brown rust but is susceptible to yellow rust.

Myriad

Myriad has performed well in the UK, especially in Northern regions and possesses good agronomic attributes combined with OWBM resistance. The variety is suitable for the distilling and soft UKS wheat export market. AHDB RL data suggests that Myriad also performs well when later sown. Myriad has good disease resistance, is resistant to wheat blossom midge and has good grain quality, making it suitable for a range of markets.

Revelation

Revelation is a soft group 4. It has approval for distilling and export and performs well as an early drilled wheat and second wheat. All of this can be achieved because it has outstanding disease resistance. Quite simply, it has the best combination of Rust, Septoria and Eyespot resistance of any variety on the Recommended List. It really is a revelation! Revelation has the best disease resistance profile on the AHDB RL 2017/18, which should highlight an important consideration for risk management on all far.
