Florentine

A two row feed winter barley with good standing power and early ripening. Florentine has excellent disease resistance, virus resistance, a high specific weight and low screenings which make it the ideal variety for on-farm feeding.

Florentine’s excellent agronomics allow for lower management demand, making it an easy, economical variety to grow. Only a small acreage being grown, with less than 1% of the potential UK barley seed harvest being of Florentine.

KWS Glacier

A consistent performer over the past three contrasting years, KWS Glacier is a two row variety with a nice bold grain and relatively low screenings, backed up by a sound agronomic profile. Treated yields were 1% behind KWS Infinity according to HGCA data but still a good variety to recommend. Should still have up to 30% of the market.

KWS Infinity

A high yielding 2 row variety with good standing power and good resistance to “wet weather” diseases. Good grain size but specific weight slightly behind the likes of KWS Cassia and KWS Glacier. A relatively small amount of seed available which, if all sold would produce a market share of around 3%

Volume (Hybrid)

A very high yielding six row Hybrid that has performed well in all regions of the UK. Early to mature and high tillering, Volume is resistant to Barley Yellow Mosaic Virus and has good resistance to Rhynchosporium. 40% of the Hybrid Barley being grown in the UK for seed production is Volume.

Bazooka (Hybrid)

As a candidate variety in the HGCA trials last year, Bazooka outyielded Volume by 2% and was around 7cm taller. It’s disease profile is better than Volume, especially it’s Yellow Rust and Rhynchosporium resistance scoring a provisional 9 in both catagories. 18% of the Hybrid Barley acreage sown for 2015 harvest for seed production was of Bazooka.
